Canadian credit card. How to use yours safely for online Canada shopping.

Can you can use your Canadian credit card safely online? Yes, you can if you avoid some little traps. Here are some good common sense approaches to protect your identity and credit card from theft based on my own experience both as an online buyer and seller.

If you want to compare credit card offerings or find a card to suit your specific need here is a quick and easy way to do it online.

Let me preface this discussion by suggesting that just about everyone exposes themselves to credit card theft every week of lives without going online. How so? Think about how often you have given your credit card to someone to pay for a purchase. Now think about the number of times that card has left your sight after handing it over. If it was to pay for gas for your vehicle the answer will be almost 100% of the time. Anytime your Canadian credit card leaves your sight it is vulnerable to theft.

Hardly anyone gives this a thought yet the fact is many credit cards are stolen under this scenario.

What has the above got to do with online credit card Canada safety. Absolutely nothing, except to point out that this exposure of your credit card to theft is far greater than the exposure you will face on the net.

Here are some good ways to expose your Canadian credit card to theft online.

1) Send your details by email.

Would you send your credit card information to someone through the regular mail on a postcard where anybody that handles the card can read it. Of course not. The online equivalent of a postcard is an email.

2) Submit your information to a site where you cannot verify that your Transaction is Secure. This is a certain way to get yourself in trouble.

3) Click on all of those boxes that ask "remember my password" account number or any such repetitive expressions.

Canadian Banks are eliminating the auto fill function for passwords and account numbers because they create a possible way for cyber thieves to find your info. Many others are doing the same thing. Don't be lazy and forget the convenience of not having to remember recurring expressions. Get into the habit of never checking an auto fill box.

4) Do you store all of your personal information on your computer?

Net bandits will just love you especially if you are permanently connected to the net through the same ISP. If you do not have firewall protection you will be loved even more.

I have outlined the most common, well practiced, ways that people get themselves into personal financial trouble on the net.

Avoid these little traps and shop only at sites where you can verify that the transaction is secure and become a happy shopper like me and use your Canadian credit card online safely.
